Clubs discover their fate in CAF Confederation and Champions League draws

Top African clubs set for thrilling group stage battles as CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup draw concludes in Cairo.

The 2024-25 CAF inter-club draws, held in Cairo, Egypt, revealed the fate of the 16 teams who will be participating in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, respectively.

Egyptian giants Al Ahly are holders of the Champions League, while Zamalek drew 2-2 with Rs Berkane to clinch the Confederation Cup last season.

However, both teams have had a go at each other already, serving up an exciting game in the Super Cup final, which officially ushered in the continental showpiece as Zamalek emerged victorious.

With the curtain raiser out of the way and the draw officially concluded, the participating teams, who were grouped into four different pots, have their jobs cut out.

Tp Mazembe are pitted against Young Africans, Al Hilal, and Mc Alger in Group A in the CAF Champions League, while Mamelodi Sundowns will lock horns with Raja Casablanca, Asfar club, and As Maniema Union in Group B.

Group C sees Al Ahly battle it out with CR Belouizdad, Orlando Pirates and Stade d’Abidjan – with the last Champions league group comprising Esperance Tunis, Pyramids Fc, Sagrada Esperanca and Djoliba Ac de Bamako.

Meanwhile, in the Confederation Cup, Simba Sc find themselves in Group A with Cs Sfaxien, Cs Constantine and Fc Bravos do Maquis.

Group B contains RS Berkane, Stade Malien, Stellenbosch, and Cd Lunda-Sul, while Group C has USM Alger, Asec Mimosas, Asc Jaraaf, and Orapa United.

Egyptian powerhouse Zamalek wrap up the pairings as they lie in group D with Al Masry Sc, Enyimba Fc, and Black Bulls.

The first round of matches are expected to be played in November.
