Six Lives Lost in Devastating Kpong-Tema Highway Crash.
A tragic accident on the Akosombo to Tema Highway in Ghana's Eastern Region has claimed six lives, including three students, on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred near Akuse Junction, leaving three dead on the spot and three others pronounced dead on Arrival at the St. Martin de Porres Catholic Hospital in Agormanya.
The victims were travelling from Madina to Ho in a Toyota Hiace van with registration number GS 6374-22. Preliminary reports suggest that a private vehicle, occupied by an old student of Mawuli Senior High School,
allegedly overtook other vehicles, resulting in a tyre burst that led to a collision with the passenger vehicle.
Eyewitnesses say the collision appeared severe, involving multiple vehicles, and rescue teams are still clearing the debris. The cause of the accident remains under investigation, though early indications suggest excessive speed and poor visibility might have contributed.
Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution on the road, especially during early morning and late evening hours when visibility is low. They also emphasized the importance of wearing seat belts and avoiding distractions while driving.
