Kwesi Appiah aims to lead Sudan to 2026 World Cup

Ghanaian coach Kwesi Appiah is determined to achieve a remarkable feat by leading Sudan to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Appiah, who guided Ghana to the 2014 World Cup, views this as a significant breakthrough if he can secure World Cup qualification for the North African nation.

Sudan have accumulated three wins and one draw, totalling 10 points, as they currently hold a two-point lead over Senegal, who are second in the group with eight points.

“Reaching the World Cup would be a tremendous boost for the development of football in the country. It would simplify administrative processes and potentially transform the lives of my players,” Appiah said to FIFA in a recent interview.

“At present, there are only two professionals in the squad. World Cup participation could inspire them to pursue careers in Europe and change their perspective on their potential. The joy and impact of such an achievement would be immense for all of Sudan.”

Appiah’s Sudan are in the same group with Ghana for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
