Agya Koo criticised over NPP post amid #FreeTheCitizens campaign
Popular Kumawood actor and ardent supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Agya Koo has come under severe criticism over an endorsement post for the NPP amid the #FreeTheCitizens campaign currently ongoing.
The online rally began after some protesters including socialite Ama Governor and activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor were arrested during a three-day protest against galamsey at the 37 military intersection in Accra.
The protesters were arrested on Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22 and arraigned before court.
The arrest sparked the #FreeTheCitizens campaign which has seen several Ghanaians including Efya, Camidoh and Efia Odo and many others joining in.
But on September 25, 2024, in the heat of the moment, Agya Koo took to his X handle to call on Ghanaians to support NPP presidential candidate Dr. Bawumia in upcoming general elections on December 7.
“Vote for @MBawumia to continue the good work of President Akufo-Addo and NPP,” he posted.
However, Agya Koo’s statement drew harsh criticism from online users who said he was insensitive to the ongoing issues.
